The Week Ahead: Legal League Servicer Summit Returns to Dallas 

Open to all mortgage lending and servicing professionals, GSEs, government entities, and Legal League members, the 2024 Spring Servicer Summit provides a forum for the nation’s elite financial services law firms to discuss default policies, procedures, and emerging issues with leading mortgage servicing executives.

Set for Monday-Tuesday, April 29-30 at the Hotel Crescent Court in Dallas, Texas, the 2024 Spring Servicer Summit will feature an array of educational sessions, networking opportunities, and engaging dialogue about the pressing issues that impact financial services law firms.

Located in the heart of Dallas’ Uptown district, the Hotel Crescent Court fuses luxury and sophistication with Texan charm and scale. For more than 30 years, it has been recognized by travel magazines and organizations as one of the finest luxury hotels in the country. Less than five minutes from Downtown Dallas and within walking distance of America’s largest urban arts district, the Hotel Crescent Court boasts a 22,000 square foot spa and fitness center, and Nobu.

Enrich your knowledge

With so many of the industry’s top servicing execs under the same roof, the 2024 Spring Servicer Summit offers numerous opportunities to enrich your knowledge and discover tips and tricks to take your business to the next level. Event organizers have planned a full agenda of events, featuring informative breakout sessions and interactive roundtable discussions, along with the chance to interact first-hand with the top movers and shakers in the industry, as well as officials from top government agencies.

Things kick off with Legal League Advisory Council Chair Stephen Hladik, and Five Star’s Executive Director of Memberships Gina Gallutia sharing an overview of the day during their Welcome Remarks.

Immediately following, will be the first General Session of the day, “Market Outlook: Birds-Eye View to Boots-on-the-Ground,” featuring panelists David Demers of Cooke Demers LLC, Rita Falcioni of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Melissa Black of PennyMac Loan Services LLC, Alicia Byrd from Flagstar Bank, Ingrid Jaschok of Cenlar, and Nolan Turner from Carrington Holding Company LLC. This panel will combine the expertise of an economic outlook with practical industry knowledge for a full perspective of the market outlook. The veterans on the panel will bring their expertise to discuss the past, present, and future of the industry. The 2024 Servicer Summit offers its Roundtable Discussions where attendees have the opportunity to engage with colleagues during in small, interactive topic-centric discussions on foreclosure and bankruptcy, led by industry experts Clayton Gordon from Carrington Mortgage Services LLC, Caren Castle from IDEA Law Group PC, Shawn Carter of Mr. Cooper, Ashley Beane from Freddie Mac, Neil Sherman from Schneiderman & Sherman PC, Hilary Bonial of Bonial & Associates, PC, Brooke E. Sanchez from McPhail Sanchez LLC, and Allen Myers of JPMorgan Chase.

The second General Session of the day will bring together a cross-section of government officials, industry execs, and legal experts in “Navigating the Legal Landscape: Insights into Mortgage Servicing Litigation Trends 2024.” Invited panelists taking part include Jane Bond from McCalla Raymer Leibert Pierce LLC’s Florida office, Mike Aiken of Fay Financial, LeAllen Frost from Mr. Cooper, Star Japp from Carrington Mortgage Holdings, Michael Merritt from BOK Financial, and Chris Scanlan from Fannie Mae. The panel will explore the dynamic world of Mortgage Servicing Litigation. During the third General Session of the day, Ryan Bourgeois of Barrett Daffin Frappier Turner and Engel LLP, Deloise Browne-Milner of Freddie Mac, Elizabeth DeSilva from McCalla Raymer Leibert Pierce LLC, Wendy Lee of Sagent, and Mike Shea of SGP Advisors will discuss the topic of “Cyber Security.” Gain insights on how to not only safeguard your organization, but also how to mitigate the aftermath, both legally and operationally. The fourth and final General Session of the day looks forward to November and the fallout of the next Presidential Election during the session, “An Overview of Election Impact.” A mix of industry execs, and government officials are scheduled to participate, including Stephen Hladik; Roy Diaz; Larry Goldstone from BSI Financial Services; Rick Sharga from CJ Patrick Company; George P. Bush of Michael Best LLP; and John O’Shea, U.S. Congressional Candidate for the 12th District in Texas. Keynote address

Five Star is proud to present James P. Novak, Director of the Business Law and Compliance Group at Allstate, as the Spring Servicer Summit’s Keynote Speaker. Responsible for all legal aspects of the lender services business, Novak previously served as SVP and General Counsel at QBE Financial Insurance and former VP and General Counsel at National Interstate Corporation. He has served as a principal regulatory liaison with state and federal regulators, agencies, and legislators in addition to assisting in the design and roll-out of new businesses, including real estate tax services, homeowner and consumer-affiliated agencies, mergers and acquisitions; and asset purchase and sale transactions. Novak has been a mentor in mentoring programs and is a frequent speaker in leadership development programs.

With demographic shifts, changes in the housing market, economy, climate and migration-residential homeowner insurance has been a constant adapting and evolving to maintain the protections necessary to safeguard and protect owners and investors alike. In his Keynote, Novak will share his expertise on insurance, discussing the industry’s current challenges, and looks ahead on the impact lender/servicing business operations may face.

Network with your peers

Throughout the day, the 2024 Legal League Spring Servicer Summit offers and array of opportunities to meet with and network with your industry peers, and some of the invited speakers. Attain Default Servicer Certification

In addition to the array of networking opportunities and informative sessions, the 2024 Spring Servicer Summit also offers the opportunity to attain Levels I & II of the Legal League Default Servicer Certification.

These in-person classes will be offered on Monday, April 29 preceding the start of the Spring Servicer Summit.
