Legal League has assembled a panel of experts including ReNee Brooks, VP, Mortgage Servicing Legal Risk, Truist; David Friedman, Partner, Litigation, Van Ness Law Firm PLC; Clayton Gordon, Director, Default Mediation and Litigation, Carrington Mortgage Services LLC; Charles Gufford, Managing Partner, McCalla Raymer Leibert Pierce; and Jennifer Rogers, Attorney with Idea Law Group LLC to take part in the webinar.
Meet the experts
Brooks serves as VP, Mortgage Servicing Legal Risk for Truist, where she manages legal risk for mortgage servicing, including default litigation, mediations, due diligence, title, and attorney management. A graduate of the University of Richmond E. Claiborne Robbins School of Business Administration and the Vanderbilt University School of Law, she had a diverse legal practice dealing with many corporate legal issues. Joining the mortgage industry in 2010, she has had the opportunity to manage mortgage bankruptcy, represent mortgage servicing through the recent SunTrust/BB&T merger, and facilitate several large scale legal and regulatory projects in addition to her current responsibilities.
Friedman, a Partner in Litigation with Van Ness Law Firm, has counseled numerous clients in the mortgage servicing industry for the past five years on matters relating to tax, municipal litigation, potential exposure from defendants and non-parties, and a host of other legal issues, Friedman has a wide array of practice experience. In his current role, he is in charge of the Van Ness Miami office, and is the firm’s senior litigation and lead trial attorney. Friedman’s knowledge of court procedure provides him with a unique perspective, bridging the gap between institutional clients and the courtrooms in which their employees find themselves.
Gordon, current Director of Default Mediation and Litigation with Carrington Mortgage Services, was admitted to practice in Florida in 2000, and has spent the majority of his career working in the real estate and consumer finance fields. He served in roles prosecuting and defending foreclosures, representing debtors in bankruptcy, managing residential and commercial real estate closings, writing title insurance, and taking on homeowners associations. Since 2013, he has served Carrington Mortgage Services, as a corporate representative in foreclosure and corporate lawsuits. He now manages all contested foreclosures, foreclosure settlements, the mediation team, and trial witness team. Additionally, he constantly revises and re-engineers corporate processes to improve lawsuit timelines, reduce costs, and better serve investors.
Gufford is a Managing Partner with McCalla Raymer Leibert Pierce LLC’s Florida Litigation & Trial Practice Group. Gufford has more than 20 years of experience with a practice focused on real property law, including Commercial and Residential mortgage and lien foreclosure, association law, probate law, and appellate practice. Gufford has extensive experience in the trial arena representing major lending institutions, having conducted hundreds of non-jury trials. Gufford has also conducted numerous jury trials in Florida’s criminal and civil courts.
Rogers is an Attorney with Idea Law Group LLC, and has 17-plus years of experience focused on representing mortgage lenders and services in real estate law, title curative matters, routine and complex civil litigation, bankruptcy, creditor’s rights, residential and commercial foreclosures, and evictions. Additionally, Rogers has managed attorneys and staff in a law firm providing comprehensive default services to the mortgage default industry. Rogers has been a frequent speaker at mortgage default conferences addressing issues related to litigation, foreclosure, evictions, and creditor’s rights. She is a founding member of the Colorado Creditor’s Bar Association, and is licensed to practice law in the state of Colorado.
