As a part of its efforts to foster dialogue on the growing challenges related to the availability and affordability of property insurance, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) will host the next session in its series of property insurance symposiums on March 13, 2024.
“The availability and affordability of insurance is a profoundly critical issue impacting every region of the country,” said FHFA Director Sandra L. Thompson. “This next forum allows multifamily industry leaders and stakeholders the opportunity to exchange and openly discuss creative ideas to address the escalating insurance market stress and how we can help those impacted.”
The event will feature panels with various stakeholders, including:
- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
- The U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development Multifamily Office
- Insurance Industry Experts
- Multifamily Lenders and Borrowers
This in-person event will be hosted in Washington, D.C. on a first-come, first-served basis. An option to attend virtually will also be available.
A recent Perspectives Blog post by Fannie Mae authors Saif Amin, Fannie Mae’s Senior Director of Climate Impact Strategy, and Li-Ning Huang, Principal of Market Research, found that climate change presents both immediate and long-term challenges to everyone involved in real estate, including renters.
As the frequency and intensity of weather-related events increases, Fannie Mae is working to advance equitable and sustainable access to homeownership and quality, affordable rental housing, and working to further their knowledge on climate change response and the affect it has on the homeowners and renters they serve.
Legal League’s Special Initiatives Working Group (SIWG) has announced the publication of its latest White Paper titled, “National Disaster Assistance: Resources for Homeowners and the Impact Within Mortgage Default.” The Paper takes a deeper look at the assistance available from numerous agencies across the U.S. when natural disaster strikes—ranging from funds to rebuild, moratoria on mortgage default-related actions, forbearance plans, and the availability of homeowner assistance funds to assist with household maintenance.
